Petone Herald?s readers have missed out on competing in a revamped Top Town television series after Hutt City Council did not return an invitation to compete. Top Town harks back to the 70s and 80s - including mustachioed men in stubbies and tank tops competing in novelty athletic events for town pride. TVNZ will be screening the remake and has announced the new competitors. Hutt didn?t make it. Eyeworks / Touchdown head of production Greg Heathcote said the company sent out invitations to all territorial authorities ? essentially any place that has a mayor. Upper Hutt and Porirua appear to be the only local cities that replied ? both saying no. It appears Hutt did not respond. -The towns that made the cut: Ashburton, Gisborne, Gore, Greymouth, Masterton, Motueka, Oamaru, Otorohanga, Papakura, Queenstown, Taupo, Timaru, Whakatane, Whangarei and the host city Christchurch.
