Litea Ah Hoi, Porirua City Council deputy Mayor
Litea Ah Hoi, Porirua City Council deputy Mayor ?I make New Year?s resolutions every year, but do I stick to them...nah.?? Cr Ah Hoi says the whole point of making resolutions is to make us feel better but that, as humans, we find it difficult to adhere to them.? ?One day when I grow up I?m going to make a new year?s resolution to never make them,? she says. ?My previous?resolutions have been...?to give up smoking, lose weight, be nice to people I don't like, and stop dressing like a fob ? my kids keep telling me this.? Stop talking like a fob, and stop taking the mickey out of my younger brother Stewart?because his kids and wife?don't like it ? I always tell him he's adopted into our family, he's 38.? Jo Seager, celebrity chef ?My resolution this year was to do less but better, and up until a week ago I was achieving that. Now I?m really busy. ?Next year, I?m going to try it again. I?ll learn to say no one of these days. I also want to try and make each morning count,? Mrs Seager says. Nick Leggett, Porirua City Councillor ?On a personal level: To eat less and?exercise more, with the obvious goal of dropping some 'excess baggage.' ?And from a council perspective,?continue to work towards improving?the opportunities for Porirua residents?by securing a couple of new?leisure attractions for the city and continue pushing for the city centre revitalisation,? says Cr Leggett. David Ogden, Hutt City Mayor ?I believe in resolutions, absolutely ? if you don't set goals and have targets or a vision of what you want to achieve, zero can happen.? In 2010 Mr Ogden wants to get fitter. ?I know what it's like to be really fit, when I was running marathons, and doing correct exercise is one of the secrets of life. Also it is my plan to keep our wonderful city a ?city that works? -?keeping rates down, improving our infrastructure, planting trees, building cycle-ways,?and celebrating our values together,? he says. Euon Murrell, Porirua City Councillor ?No, I haven?t made any New Year Resolutions and to be honest cannot remember that I ever had.?? In regard to changing personal habits Cr Murrell is more determined to continue speaking his mind. ?As I see it forget political correctness; say it as it is even if it is not what people want to hear,? he says. Peter Dunne, Ohariu MP "I'm not really one for New Year's Resolutions. I think they're a little false. As far as I am concerned, if you want to make changes to your lifestyle or habits, you should do so at any time. So, I have not made any special resolutions for 2010, other than all the usual things one thinks of over the summer period ? like spending more time with family and friends?. "These are easy things to think over the holiday period, but then reality bites once the working year begins, and everything slips back onto its normal groove" Trevor Mallard, Lower Hutt MP Although apprehensive about making resolutions, Mr Mallard wants more thinking time this year. ?I haven't made a New Year resolution for years. Never seemed effective to me back then. If I do a couple of extra things it will involve reading more widely and doing some more writing,? he says. Kerry Prendergast, Wellington City Mayor ?Like all New Zealanders I have heaps of good intent at the start of each year, this year I want to spend more time with the family, especially with the birth of a grandchild, Amber Leigh,? Mayor Prendergast says. She says resolutions need to be achievable and that people ?shouldn?t give up at the first hurdle?. What do you think? Is there any point in making New Year?s Resolutions?
