Lauren Ensor was not surprised to see over 30 people turn up for a yoga session in Te Whiti Park last week.
The holiday break has been a challenge for those organising outdoor activities. So when the weather finally came to the party, Hutt City Council recreation coordinator Lauren Ensor was not surprised to see over 30 people turn up for a yoga session in Te Whiti Park last week. ?The highlight has certainly been the people that showed up for yoga, only one person was on our mailing list, so there were around 29 new people show up,? says Miss Ensor. She is running The Push Play in the Park programme for the council, which aims to keep hundreds of children active and energised over the holidays. Miss Ensor has also been in charge of a holiday programme and has had to seek indoor activities more often than she would like. ?I think that better promotion this year has helped the programmes, in winter we only promoted within the council services, but this year we have done more. ?We have been battling the weather; our activities can change quite rapidly. The holiday programme is not too bad, we still go to the Hutt pools if it?s raining,? she says. Families are encouraged to join the free Push Play session for two-hours of fun and games each afternoon designed to keep the entire family active. Activities are suitable for all abilities and designed for children aged 5 to 10 years. Each session runs from 1- 3pm. The final two Push Play in the Park events are being held at CL Bishop Park, Marine Parade, Eastbourne on Thursday 28 January, and at Maungaraki School, Dowse Drive on Friday 29 January.
