Dowse Interchange Walkover and opening

The Dowse to Petone Upgrade project Team is inviting the public to a walkover of the new Dowse Interchange on Saturday February 28, 2009. This is a once only chance to meander and inspect the road before it is opened to traffic in the first week of March. Volunteers from the Western Hills Rotary Club will be running the event and entry is by gold coin donation. All the proceeds will be donated to local charity, Te Omanga Hospice. Maungaraki School has been following the D2P project very closely and they will be running a sausage sizzle selling their famous BLT?s, cold drinks and sweet treats. Pedestrian access is via Dowse Drive from the West and next to the new roundabout on Hutt Road from the East. There is no designated parking and people should allow time to find a suitable park and walk. The access ramps between SH2 and the Interchange will be closed. The Interchange is scheduled to open in the first week of March and once the Interchange is open the Korokoro Bridge will be closed. During the planned 12-week closure access between Hutt Road and Korokoro will be via Dowse Interchange. All traffic movements between SH2 and Hutt Road that used to happen at the Korokoro intersection will be provided for at the Dowse Interchange. Motorists travelling between SH2 and Maungaraki will also use Dowse Intechange. The project team will be closing and demolishing the existing Korokoro Bridge so that work can continue with the construction of the new Korokoro overbridge and intersection. WWW.nzta.govt.nz/2dp has up to date traffic information and maps which may be useful when planning your travel.
