Moera faithful still flocking to their hall
By Tim O?Connell

A changing of the guard and solid use by local residents sees the latest report on the Moera Community House painting an optimistic picture for its future. The Community House Coordinator?s February and March report to the Hutt City Council showed the house continues to meet the needs of the community. Among recent events were the successful school holiday programme that ran through the Christmas break with offsite trips, government-funded yoga classes, a successful application to the Hutt Adult Education for Health and Fitness courses, popular Senior Citizens events and outings, and a Tamil Language playgroup. MCH Coordinator Michael Lulich was buoyant in his appraisal, and was impressed by the way locals had supported the house in recent months. ?Going to the Committee meetings is as always a pleasurable experience where Committee members are down-to-earth and passionate about their community house,? he said. ?There is a real community feel when you see many members of the community of all ages use the community house and the hall.? On a sad note, local personality Warwick Johnston has resigned as Chairperson of the Moera Community House and from the Committee, due to personal reasons. "I don't really have a lot do with Moera these days, although I do have a lot of friends and people I know," said Mr Johnston last week. "I just thought it was time to let someone else have a turn." A valued member of several organisations in the Hutt, the committee acknowledged the excellent work of Mr Johnston had done for the Community House. New member Neil Newman was elected as interim Chairperson until the Annual General Meeting in August. The report also highlights the ongoing progress made by the nearby Moera community garden, which has been championed by local residents for over 18 months.
