Eastbourne star volunteer wins civic honour

Eastbourne?s Margaret Rankine, pictured with Hutt City mayor David Ogden, won the award for services to community and social welfare at last week?s Civic Honours Award. Margaret ?is from the old school?a stickler for organisation, correct processes and doing things in the proper way?, wrote a nominator. She joined the Red Cross in 1948 and has been member of the East Harbour Red Cross since 1954. She is currently its president, a position she has held for many years. And she has been involved in every aspect of Red Cross work, from fundraising and providing first aid services for community events, to teaching first aid and participating in civil defence exercises run by the Hutt Emergency Management office. Meanwhile a tireless champion for Te Omanga Hospice, Ross McKinnon, pictured, was awarded for his services to the community. The Civic Honour Awards honour people who have contributed their time and energy to voluntary services benefiting residents or organisations in Hutt City.
