Last chance to have your say

Residents throughout the region are currently being asked to think about and comment on proposals in Draft Long Term Council Community Plans. City councils in the Presstige Community Newspaper coverage area include Wellington, Porirua and Hutt City and all three are, or soon will be, seeking public input to Long Term Community Plans. Councils must prepare long term plans every three years and the draft plans include not only the next three years but extending further to cover the next decade. The pressure for all councils to manage finances during turbulent economic times, where affordability is the word on everyone?s lips is intense, yet services and infrastructure need to be maintained, provision made for growth and rates set. Hutt City Council?s Draft Long-term Council Community Plan for 2009-2019, incorporating the 2009-2010 Annual Plan is a 325 page document available for inspection at any Hutt City Council library, the main Council building at 30 Laings Road and it can be downloaded from council?s web site. All residents should have received summaries of the plan with explanations as to how to comment or make a submission, which must be made by April 30, 2009. Porirua City Council publicly launched its draft LTCCP on April 2 at Te Rauparaha Arena with plenty of follow up publicity encouraging people to have their say. The submission period runs from April 1 to May 1, 2009 and people can respond by post, online, fax or hand deliver their submissions to council. Wellington City Council finalized its draft LTCCP for the mid 2009 - mid 2019 period on March 26 and residents will be able to comment on the draft plan when consultation opens on 16 April 2009. All residents are given the opportunity to speak to their submissions and public hearings are already scheduled with further information available at the flowing web sites: www.huttcity.govt.nz/publications www.wellington.govt.nz/plans www.pcc.govt.nz
