Funding forum for local community groups
By Chrys Ayley

Community groups interested in finding out how to maximise their chances of receiving funding are invited to attend a programme to learn more from the experts. Past recipients of community grants from the Lottery Wellington Fund include the Petone Settlers Museum - $10,600, Petone Youth and Family Trust - $9,000 and the Eastbourne Youth Workers Trust which has received $108,000 since 2001. Fit 4 Funding is a community event run between Hutt City Council, Upper Hutt City Council and the Department of Internal Affairs aimed at helping community groups plan the best way to apply for community funding. The event planned for February 23 at Lower Hutt Town Hall will cover the basics of funding, governance, finance and the volunteer sector. A panel of five, including John Terris of the Hutt Mana Trust and Eastbourne local John Griggs of the Wellington regional Grants Committee for the J R Mckenzie Trust and member of the Eastbourne Community Trust will be on hand to answer questions. The total amount given out by the various funding boards totals over $100 million annually and up to 20 local funders will be available on the day. Funding providers and resources on-site will include representatives of the Hutt Mana Trust, New Zealand Community Trust and the Charities Commission. All Hutt City community groups can apply for funding Community Funding Officer Candy Murchison says. Further information contact Candy Murchison phone 570 6900
