After-dark winter fun run Mark Sawyer

If taking on a wet and muddy 9km running track in the middle of the night during the depths of a Wellington winter excites you, then read on. The annual Butterfly Creek Night-time Madness fun run is back for its 10th year. Promoted as an event for all ages and fitness levels, the Night-time Madness run features three courses which include a 7.75km walk, the 9.95km classic run and the 15.4km 'extreme run'. Event organiser, Luke Paadoekeeper, says the event always manages to attract a wide range of ages. "People need to be in partners to participate in the event. There are categories for youth, parents and children, and adults to go together, and you are competing at night-time" "The three courses are designed to cater for newcomers and experienced runners. You don't need to be a top athlete to compete in the run. This is something different and designed to be a fun night out for the community." All three races of Buttefly Creek Nightime Madness run begin at 7pm in the evening and continue into the night. Entries into the race close on July 17 and details can be found online - www.paardekooper.co.nz
