CARNIVAL FUN IN THE SUN

The Petone foreshore was a buzz last Saturday with thousands of people turning up to check out the Petone Winter Carnival. It was a cracker day with early morning cloud giving way to brilliant sunshine and ideal conditions for the impressive line-up of activities and attractions. Those brave enough to sign-up for the always popular Polar Plunge welcomed the warm weather as they queued for a chilly mid-winter dip in colourful fancy dress. During the swim, Dave and Camille from Classic Hits entertained the crowd and prizes abound. Carnival rides and games were a new addition to the carnival programme this year. The Dragon Wagon, the Rockin? Tug and the Cup and Saucer proved a hit with kids of all ages as they jumped at the chance to be daring and dizzy. The atmosphere heated up in the evening with the burning of the E Tu Fire Sculptures. Six works of art, created and constructed during the day were set alight in succession along Petone beach. Capping off the event was the much-anticipated Pelorus Trust Fireshow. The still night air and clear skies proved a perfect backdrop for the stunning pyrotechnic display.
