Gold for Gould

They were up against the biggest and the best sausage makers in the country and walked away with three medals. By Chrys Ayley What started out as a plain chilli and garlic recipe turned into a gold medal winning Spicy Thai Sausage thanks to staff at Goulds Fine Foods in Petone. Product development manager Alan Chan said they were confident their sausages stood a chance of winning a medal in this year?s Great New Zealand Sausage Competition and the timing was just right. The results of the competition were announced last Wednesday. The sausage came top in the International Spicy category with their pre-cooked everyday sausage and saveloy picking up silver medals. ?We aim for the top so we were happy,? Mr Chan said. Mr Chan said the original thai sausage recipe contained chilli and garlic and it was spiced up after a staff member from Thailand made suggestions for adding bits and pieces. They were trying to emulate the style of Thai sausage served in Thai restaurants, he said. ?I?m very proud of that product.? The small, family run business based in Hutt Park Road, Seaview was the only winner in the Wellington region. The Great New Zealand sausage Competition is organised by the Retail Meat New Zealand and is the country?s premier sausage judging event.
