Eastbourne carnival spilling into the streets
By Tim O?Connell

Far from being just another school fair, November?s Eastbourne Carnival is set to once again take the mardi gras atmosphere of previous years beyond the school gates. Organising the carnival for the first time, Libby Palmer said preparations for the event are going well, with the Eastbourne community offering plenty of support. ?It?s a really good event, and everyone?s been really supportive.? More than one hundred vendors have already been booked, which Ms Palmer said puts the total number of bookings ?almost at capacity?. ?We get about ten to twenty thousand people turn out, but it?s all weather dependent. ?So yeah, we?re just praying for some good weather.? The event is organised by Muritai School?s home and school committee as a way of raising funds for various resources and school activities. This year it runs on November 23 from 10am to 4pm. The action spills beyond the school gates, with Rimu Street closed off to traffic, along with parts of Oroua, Rata and Makara streets allowing the carnival to extend through the village
