Honorary degree for Timothy Walker
By Chrys Ayley

Timothy Walker was awarded an honorary Bachelor of Creative Technology at last Thursday?s Wellington Institute of Technology graduation ceremony at the Michael Fowler Centre. For the first time in WelTec?s history two honorary awards were presented. The first, and the most prestigious award that WelTec could award, went to Mr Walker for his significant contribution to the Wellington region and the wider New Zealand arts community. Mr Walker is known in the Wellington Region for his work as the Director of TheNewDowse and the Petone Setters Museum. He left the district last year to take up his new post as Head of Museum Delivery at Auckland Museum. WelTec Chief Executive Officer, Linda Sissons paid tribute to Mr Walker during her introductory speech, commending him for developing an ambitious and visionary organisation, revitalising the museum experience and spear-heading the redevelopment of TheNewDowse into a national and internationally recognised museum. The second award, the WelTec Medal, was given to Ihakara Porutu Puketapu for his significant contribution to WelTec, the Wellington region and the wider Maori community.
