Maori Party candidate: It?s not about taxes

Maori Party Te Tai Tonga candidate Rahui Katene says Maori in Petone and its surrounds rate health and education above tax cuts. Party volunteers door-knocked southern Hutt people on the Maori roll about their key issues in the lead-up to elections. ?We?ve been asking them ?he aha te mea nui?? - what?s the most important issue to you this election that you need political parties to respond to?? said Katene. ?Interestingly, it?s not tax cuts, international financial collapses or violent crime rates which the mainstream parties would have us all believe.? Instead she said Maori were more concerned about education, healthcare and more support for low-income people. Katene said these concerns cut across low income and more affluent Maori. ?I?m particularly heartened that those living in more affluent homes recognise the struggles that other whanau are experiencing and want political parties to commit to ending poverty in Aotearoa.? The Party stated it spent a month knocking on two thousand-plus doors in Petone and surrounding suburbs
