Judgeford Golf Club held its annual Senior and Intermediate Match Play Finals last weekend, bring to a conclusion a tight competition between club members. The club has been staging the event for the past 50 years. Golf Club manager and last year?s championship runner-up Ray Lash says the competition has been good this year and players have managed well in the wet conditions. He says the first hole is considered a difficult task, but that players cope differently with the conditions. ?A lot is based on how far people can hit golf balls. ?It depends on the individual talent, the number one is a tough starting hole,? says Mr Lash To make it into the senior competition finals Ben Duflou played Brent Walton, and Steve Metuariki faced off against Garth Lippitt. Ben Duflou won 2/1 and Garth Lippitt 4/3 to come out on top and have now faced off for club supremacy. Grant Marr played Gerard Arthurs, and Mohammad Ali faced Jeff Morrison in the intermediate competition semi-finals. Gerard Arthurs won 9/7 and Mohammad Ali won 3/1 meet for a showdown for the intermediate championship title. Membership at the club is high, with around 780 members joined up before the summer drive. This year?s championship winners will be honoured with their names on the honour board and a celebratory event in November.
