Hoarders beware a spring clean is in the air

Ngaio set for an inorganic spring clean. The Ngaio Residents? Association has set the date for its 2009 inorganic rubbish collection for 19 September, and are advising residents of the opportune time to have a clean out around their property. They are asking locals to put inorganic junk outside their house by 8:00am and remember the donation for the cleanup.? Donations can also be left at the Ngaio pharmacy. There will not be a stall at the junk drive this year because of the distance from the tip and the use of covered trucks. The association say there is too much time lost when ?good junk? has to be off-loaded. Porirua City Council residents can have unwanted household items collected twice a year for free, and Pukerua bay Residents Association chairperson Pat Hanley says the service works very well. ?In Pukerua Bay we just call up the Trash Palace and they do the deal. ?It works fine, there may be a problem with people not knowing the service is there for them,? says Mr Hanley. Residents who are unable to drop unwanted household items off to Trash Palace, on Broken Hill Road, can arrange for two free collections from their house per year. Bookings are required and can be made from Monday to Saturday from 8.30-5pm on 237 6440. The collection of the rubbish will not take place immediately as there is a waiting time for the collection service. Locals need to take a note of the scheduled collection date and only put their items for collection out at the gate on that day. Unwanted household items can also be dropped off to Trash Palace seven days a week for free (except for fridges and freezers which have a $15 degassing charge). More information about this service can be found on the Trash Palace website www.trashpalace.co.nz
