Onslow College Cricket Nets
By Mark Sawyer

July 1, 2009 Onslow College cricket players are looking forward to the completion of new all-weather cricket facility in time for this summer's season. The new complex houses three practice nets and changing rooms which will provide a year round practice facility the schools cricket teams and for cricketers from the Onslow and Johnsonville cricket clubs. Onslow College head of physical education, Kevin Campbell, says the new facility adds a much needed resource to cricket in the region, "At the school we've gone from 45 to 90 students playing cricket in the last two years. Having these undercover nets means our teams can practice even in the wet winter months." Mr Campbell says the school teams will have access to the new facility after school to around 6pm after which the clubs can access the facility for cricket practice. Mr Campbell says Onslow College secured close to $135,000 from the New Zealand Community Trust to build the nets and Onslow and Johnsonville cricket clubs will pay an annual fee for use which will go towards maintenance costs of the facility. With the nets nearing completion, Mr Campbell says he's busy organising the running of the complex, "Wellington Cricket have expressed interest in using the nets for part of their summer cricket program. We're working through bookings and management of the facility at the moment and plan to finalise this in time for summer".
