Changing role for community leader

A new role awaits Churton Park community leader Roger Ellis. After years of fighting for increased investment in the suburb, Mr Ellis will form part of the newly announced Amesbury Drive School board of trustees. ?The last year has been really positive for the area; these changes will help build an identity. ?2010 marks my seventh year on the Community Association since 1997. I believe now is the right time to stand down,? Mr Ellis says. Since 1997 the suburbs infrastructure has come under considerable strain and the school has filled to capacity. ?The Minister of Education, Anne Tolley, has confirmed the building of a second primary school at Amesbury Drive to be opened in Term 1 of 2012. This school will at last resolve the ongoing pressure of roll growth by increasing the collective capacity of local schools.? Mr Ellis was appointed by Mrs Tolley to the Establishment Board of Trustees for the new school. As the President of the Churton Park Community Association, Mr Ellis has announced he does not intend to seek re-election at the associations AGM in March, and is looking forward to focusing on education. ?The new Neighbourhood Centre at Lakewood Avenue is scheduled for 2011. The new Westchester Drive extension is also due during 2011 and it will help reduce heavy traffic volumes on local roads as well as provide for future growth. ?The association has a strong committee and a good succession plan. I am confident that it will continue to work tirelessly for the interests of the local community. In addition events such as our annual Community Christmas function continue to attract strong local support? says Mr Ellis. ?I look forward to seeing Churton Park continue to grow and prosper as part of the wider Wellington region. Building good quality infrastructure ? especially in the education sector ? will be a critical part of that success? he says.
