September opening date announced for second Petone Park n' Ride

Good progress on the Dowse to Petone Upgrade Project has meant the New Zealand Transport Agency has been able to open one of the two Park n' Ride (Mackenzie Avenue) Bridge lanes. NZTA Wellington State Highways Manager Rob Whight says, ?The lane is being used by vehicles exiting Petone station?s park n ride facilities?. ?The other half of the bridge, providing entry to the station from Pito-One Road, is expected to be open in September.? There are over 170 car parks in the final design of the Park n' Ride facilities on the rail side of SH2 with further unofficial carparks made available by the project on the opposite side of the road.? Greater Wellington Regional Council is investigating acquiring some land on this side of the footbridge to provide further commuter car parking. ?The project has been running extremely well and to programme in spite of the poor weather that has occurred this winter.? ?We still expect the project to be completed in early 2010,? says Mr Whight. NZTA reminds motorists that they can always check out the website www.nzta.govt.nz/d2p for up to date traffic information and route maps.
